After Shell UK took over Gulf Oil (UK) Limited in 1997 the decision was taken - in spite of a £5m refit just completed - to decommission the Gulf Lubricants plant at Minoco Wharf and sell the 5.9 hectare site for development.
An application was made for a 266,500sqm residential-led mixed-use scheme in the heart of London’s Royal Docks providing nearly 3,000 residential units.
The initial photomontages were for a visual impact study only and did not require the buildings to be modelled in any detail. A number of views were requested including two views from the opposite river bank - one to include ‘Barrier Point’, the neighbouring residential development - and one from the hilltop at Greenwich Observatory. Due to the size of the proposed scheme, the images had to be Verified Views.
